SKYchannel Systems
The backbone of SKY Computers' VME solutions is the 64-bit
ANSI/VITA standard SKYchannel architecture. With system
performance of up to 1 GB/sec, its point-to-point communication enables the interconnect fabric to grow
as processing requirements increase. SKYchannel is the interconnect for the SKYbolt® family and new
Thunderbolt family of high performance embedded computers. It eliminates architectural problems of
latency, blocking and data transfer delays. SKY's entire VME line of products employ the advanced SKYvec®
software development environment that simplifies complex multiprocessor programming and ensures investment
protection.
The Thunderbolt family of VME boards and systems delivers unprecedented levels of scalability,
reliability and price/performance for demanding applications. Advanced field-tested technologies make
the Thunderbolt more tolerant of higher levels of vibration and heat.
The Thunderbolt family delivers optimal computing performance using the 500 MHz PowerPC MPC7410
microprocessor and the ANSI/VITA standard SKYchannel interconnect fabric. The 6U Thunderbolt V-600 is
configured with one Compute Module of four MPC7410's and one optional I/O Module. The 9U Thunderbolt
V-900 can be configured with up to four Compute Modules of four MPC7410's for a total of 16 processors.
The Thunderbolt V-900 includes a built-in I/O module.
The SKYbolt 6U and SKYbolt 9U systems provide proven high performance with an easy migration path for
rugged systems. Based on the SKYchannel interconnect, developers can begin with commercial grade SKYbolt
6U systems and migrate to Xtreme rugged systems.

In today's commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) market, customers almost never purchase COTS products
without modifications. This has led some to define COTS as customized-off-the-shelf. This development
demands that COTS suppliers must be flexible and innovative enough to meet the unique needs of both
commercial and military customers.
